Why we decided to create an alternative wedding site

After a long conversation in the pub (isn't that where all the best ideas come from?) and a lot of googling on our phones, we realised there was a sector of people who wanted something different on their wedding day. People like us. Those who want to break away from ‘normal’ and do it their way. There didn't seem to be much available which guided you to create the day of your dreams if you didn't want meringue dresses and the classic wedding playlist DJ.

From this we came up with the idea of pooling together unique independent British businesses in one handy place, giving you all the inspiration you need to create your special day.

Obviously the first thing we needed was a name. After going through hundreds of ideas only to find that the website was taken, or the social media was being cyber squatted on with no real purpose, we settled for Misfit Wedding.

The dictionary definition for misfit (other than when related to ill-fitting clothes...) is:

"a person not suited in behaviour or attitude to a particular social environment"

We think it sums up what we are all about and who we want to cater for perfectly.

Initially we will be building a directory of independent British businesses who we feel can offer something special to your misfit wedding. We are being very selective about who we include in these listings, nobody is paying to be here, they are being invited by us. Already, we’re thrilled with the responses we’ve been getting and it’s really reassuring us that we’re creating something worthwhile.

As for what comes next, we have a million ideas but hopefully what we create will help you to plan, organise and execute your perfect day. We could have waited and then launched an all-singing, all-dancing website in a few months, but we opted to go public now so that you can watch us grow before your very eyes!
